I am indeed grateful to God that finally, an agreement has been reached and our universities will resume, hopefully next week. But if you had followed some of the events/comments during this strike as I did, like the protest embarked upon by the group that called herself market women/ mothers, comments that ASUU was an offshoot of APC, ASUU were embarking on a self interest strike etc, etc , etc !
I feel obliged to please plead that we should desist from selling our consciences for a plate of porridge. We should be well informed on matters before commenting and moreso, we should not allow people or groups to use us in hitting this polity at a time like this.
I am not a lecturer and will never be one but as responsible citizens, we must stand up for the truth. Issues that will be beneficial to our
country and the people. I truly salute the courage of ASUU/ FG for bringing this crisis to an end..., which is for the benefit and well being of our country at a time the world is standing up to Honour Nelson Mandela.
I must also plead with our Leaders in government and in the organised private sector, to be Honouring agreements or MOU made with
Unions, Communities or People. This will also help in ushering in greater peace in this country.
So what happens to those recruited to demonstrate or write against ASUU? Where lies their face, dignity or fate, now that Government
has done the right thing? It's about time, we support and encourage Government to do the right thing.
May God help us!
Akan Emah
